FlightFabric 0.13.0: natural offline voices

FlightFabric has a few new voices in 0.13.0. They run on your PC, with US and UK options, so you can choose something you don’t mind listening to for an entire flight. There are also a few changes to controls and pushback.

Choose your voice

Kokoro provides four US and four UK voices for spoken feedback. They work offline, without an API key or subscription.

Go to Settings → Voice → Configure → Recognition & spoken feedback, choose a voice and press Test spoken feedback to hear it. If you’re already using an older Kokoro voice, it stays available as your current selection.

There is a trade-off: Kokoro uses more memory and can take a moment to get ready. Windows TTS is still there if you want the lighter option. Voice control stays off until you turn it on.

A bit less hunting around

  • Aircraft controls: controls, presets and voice phrases are now together. You can also search the toolbar voice reference with abbreviations such as HDG, ALT and V/S.
  • Pushback: I’ve shortened the setup text and added more route options for stands that need another reverse turn. It’s still experimental, and the aircraft and airport scenery make a difference.
  • Help text: setup, settings and help have less text to wade through.

How to update

Finish your flight, then check Settings → About for the update. Alternatively, choose Quit FlightFabric from the system tray and run the Windows installer. Your settings and recordings stay in place. Versions 0.12.1 and earlier need the manual installer.

To update the MSFS toolbar, close MSFS, open Settings → Devices → MSFS 2024 toolbar panel, choose Update or Reinstall, then restart the simulator.
