FlightFabric 0.9.3: aircraft controls and flight review

FlightFabric 0.9.3 adds additional aircraft controls to the screen and offline voice commands. It also changes approach scoring and gives you filters for the flight timeline. This is still experimental alpha software for MSFS 2024.

The list below describes the controls added in this release. Testing across aircraft variants and flight conditions is incomplete, so check what happens in the cockpit and read the current aircraft support and testing notes.

Aircraft controls and voice

  • Expanded aircraft controls: Search All aircraft controls to explore additional control mappings across 19 aircraft profiles, including value editors and example voice commands. PMDG 737/777, Fenix A32X and FlyByWire aircraft now have expanded access to their existing systems. Available commands still depend on the specific aircraft.
  • More autopilot controls: You can now adjust more autopilot targets using the dashboard or voice commands, including speed/Mach, heading, altitude and vertical speed. Support depends on the aircraft, its current operating mode, available data and valid input ranges.
  • Improved PMDG APU commands: APU start requests now move the switch to the START position. FlightFabric will tell you whether the command was accepted, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the APU has started or is ready for use. Voice recognition also handles spelled-out commands such as “AY PEE YOU” more consistently.
  • Separate cockpit and display lighting: You can now adjust cockpit lighting and flight-display brightness independently on the PMDG 737/777, Fenix A32X, FBW A32NX/A380X and Headwind A330. For example, you can set cockpit lighting to 50% and display brightness to 80%. Display brightness covers primary flight, navigation and engine/system displays, but doesn’t affect CDU/MCDU units, tablets or standby instruments.
  • Individual exterior lighting controls: Landing, taxi and runway-turnoff lights can now be controlled separately where supported. The Set takeoff lights command continues to apply the complete takeoff lighting preset.
  • Expanded radio and approach controls: More radio, transponder, minimums and approach functions are now available through the dashboard and voice commands. QNH and STD controls are supported on the FBW A32NX and Fenix A32X, with STD also available on the FBW A380X. In version 0.9.3, QNH/STD controls remained unavailable for the PMDG 737/777 and iniBuilds A350 because FlightFabric couldn’t reliably confirm the selected mode and current values.

Approach scoring and flight review

Approach scoring now considers how deviations develop over time, rather than assessing them individually.

For transport aircraft, FlightFabric normally uses a 1,000 ft stabilisation gate, which remains fixed rather than automatically changing with distance or weather conditions. Deviations below 500 ft carry a greater penalty.

Where valid ILS guidance is available, it takes priority over estimated flight path data. Related vertical deviations are also grouped together to avoid penalising the same issue more than once.

The timeline now uses amber for cautions, red for violations and neutral markers for recovery. Configuration failures and serious deviations still affect the final assessment. Missing data, simulator pauses and insufficient approach coverage are treated as gaps in the assessment, rather than evidence of a stable approach.

Your existing flight scores won’t change automatically. If you want to reassess an older flight using the updated scoring rules, select Review scoring. The updated results will appear in the timeline, Logbook and landing debrief, including for flights where runway geometry information is unavailable.

The Timeline Inspector also has new filters for configuration changes, including flaps, automation and flight guidance. All event types are visible by default, and your filter preferences are saved locally. Hiding an event type only changes what you see in the timeline. It doesn’t affect the original recording, scoring results or map layers.

Finally, aircraft without a suitable image now display a neutral aircraft icon with a question mark. The accompanying label explains whether FlightFabric couldn’t identify the aircraft or simply doesn’t have an image for it.

Other fixes

  • Improved flight replays: Replays now handle touch-and-go landings and go-arounds more reliably, including transitions between flight phases. They also handle incomplete throttle data better and preserve completed landing scores.
  • Missing measurements: If landing scores or rollout measurements are unavailable, FlightFabric continues to show them as unavailable rather than estimating or inventing values.
  • More reliable aircraft controls: Improved handling of outdated aircraft data, failed commands and reconnections. PMDG setup has also been simplified.
  • Security updates: Updated dependencies to address the reported js-yaml security advisory.
